What are galvanized pipes?

Galvanized pipes are steel pipes that have been dipped in a protective zinc coating to prevent corrosion and rust. Galvanized piping was commonly installed in homes built before 1960. When it was invented, galvanized pipe was an alternative to lead pipe for water supply lines.

Durability. While it's true that steel is already a relatively durable material, galvanized pipes have better strength due to the protective zinc coating. The coating takes on the damage rather than the steel itself and it will rust before the interior.
